Thank you for coming to our website. Please feel free to let us know if this information assisted you or if you need further information about our foundation send us an email.
How We Began
In 2001 the state of Ohio discontinued funding to cities for indigent burials. That year, Cincinnati city councilman Paul Booth spoke at a quarterly meeting of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association to present the city’s process for handling indigent burials following the change of state law. The inspiration for Dignity in Death was developed from that meeting.
Dignity in Death Mission Statement
The mission of Dignity in Death Foundation is to provide financial assistance to families in need so that their deceased loved ones may have a dignified funeral and burial or cremation and the surviving family members may begin to experience closure.
WHAT IS DIGNITY IN DEATH?
Dignity in Death is a not-for-profit organization whose primary focus provides financial assistance to families who face the loss of a loved one. Our aim helps ease the burden of the loss by helping the surviving family members provide a decent burial for the deceased.
HOW DOES DIGNITY IN DEATH WORK?
Needy families contact us when thye experience the loss of a loved one. A member of our staff, immediately assigned to the family, meets with the family to determine eligibility. Once determined, we work with the funeral home selected by the family to complete the financial arrangements. Payments are made directly to the funeral home on behalf of the family.
HOW DOES A FAMILY QUALIFY FOR ASSISTANCE?
Dignity in Death uses a set of guidelines based on finances alone. Any family that meets the guidelines is eligible to receive funds, regardless of race, creed, religion, or nationality. Our focus brings comfort to all families in financial need that have faced the loss of a loved one.
WHAT PERCENTAGE OF DONATIONS GOES TO THE FAMILIES IN NEED?
Since our existence, approximately 90 cents of every dollar donated is given to families in need. The remaining 10 cents covers administrative expenses. We diligently keep expenses as low as possible while providing the greatest amount of assistance possible to families.
